In France, the tipping is never obligatory : the service is included in the taximeter price. Leaving a tip is a free gesture, to reward good service (punctuality, luggage assistance, pleasant driving). No problem not leaving any: it is not a cultural fault like in certain countries.
How much to leave, if desired
The custom, when one is satisfied, is toround off the amount or leave approximately 5 to 10%. For a particular service (many bags taken upstairs, waiting, helping an elderly person), a little more is appreciated. The tip is given in cash or can be added to the payment by card depending on the terminal.
