The taximeter: how it works and how to read the price — Peugeot 508 hybrid taxi

Understand everything about the French taximeter: fare A, B, C, supplements, night and Sunday. Clear guide.

How does the taximeter work?

The taximeter is the official device that calculates the price of the ride in real time, based on rates set by prefectural decree. It combines a support (starting amount), a price per kilometer and a waiting rate (traffic jams, stops). The amount displayed is the amount you pay: it is supervised and controlled.

Rates A, B, C, D

Taxis apply hourokilometric rates marked by letters (A, B, C, D) depending on the time (day/night, week/Sunday) and the type of journey (with or without empty return). The taximeter light indicates the current fare. This system guarantees a regulated price, unlike “feeling” shopping.

Taximeter or flat rate: our transparency

For local journeys (Disneyland, airports, train stations), we apply the official taximeter and announce a estimate in advance. For long distance, a firm package is agreed before departure. In all cases: no inflated price, clear quote, and receipt/invoice on request. See also pay a taxi in France.
