The free Disney shuttles connect Disney hotels (and some partners) to the parks. They are economical but have limits : fixed schedules, multiple stops, waiting during rush hours, and they don't go not at the airport or train station. Some hotels (Davy Crockett, Best Western, Marriott) are not served.
When the taxi is smarter
The taxi is essential for: airport/train station transfers (CDG, Orly, Beauvais, Chessy), night arrivals, hotels without shuttle, excursions (Paris, Versailles), and when you have a lot of luggage or young children. No waiting, door-to-door drop-off, and the cost is shared between several people.
